- Fourth Saturday of each month (beginning March 24), 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. First UMC in Cuyahoga Falls First Church- Book Club. All are welcome to attend. The book discussed on March 24 will be “Blood Done Sign My Name” by Timothy Tyson. It is an award-winning autobiography about the family of a white Methodist pastor who must confront racism and segregation. Sign up for the club by March 4th at the church, pay for the $10 book and it will be ordered for you in plenty of time to have it read before the March 24th meeting. - There is a new class this year at Weekday Christian Preschool at First UMC, 245 Portage Trail, Cuyahoga Falls which has begun registering for the 2012/13 school year. Children must be 3,4, or 5 years old by September 30, 2012 and be fully potty trained. Preschool days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday and children may attend either a morning class (9:15 – 11:45 am) or an afternoon class (12:30 – 2:50 pm.) Larry Kies, United Methodist missionary who teaches in the Agriculture Department of Africa University in Zimbabwe, will be speaking Thursday, June 7 at Christ UMC. Mr. Kies is a graduate of Iowa State University with a B.S. in Biology. He began a 15 year career in Botswana, first in the Peace Corp and then managing a farm for a secondary school.
Mr. Kies came back to the United States to earn a M.S. in Vegetable Crops at The University of California, Davis. He returned to Africa first as a manager of Nyadire Mission Farm in Zimbabwe and then on to teach agriculture at Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe where he has students from all over Africa.
Mr. Kies is married to Jane Kies who is also a United Methodist missionary assigned to Africa University as a teacher of English as a second language. They are the parents of 4 children.

- Camp Wanake at Wedgewood UMC
A four week summer day camp for grades 1-6. Wedgewood is located at 2350 Wedgewood Dr. in Akron. Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Field trip days on Thursdays run until 5 pm and include lunch. Cost for each week is $74 if registered on or before May 1, $79 on or before June 2, and $84 after June 2.To register go to:

wanakewedgewood - We’d like to join forces with the middle-schoolers of our district. We are planning our Middle School Mission Trip to take place June 26-28 at Wooster UMC. We plan to work in Wooster, Akron, and Canton. In the evenings, we’ll take in an Akron Aeros game and visit Acres of Fun. Cost is $50 per participant.
